Meet Dr Anelisa Marasi, a registered medical doctor (MBChB) with a strong passion for community-focused healthcare. She qualified through the Nelson Mandela–Fidel Castro Medical Programme, completing six years of medical training in Cuba, followed by 18 months of clinical training in South Africa.
Dr Marasi completed her internship at Prince Mshiyeni Memorial Hospital in Durban and went on to serve her community through the community service programme at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital, where she worked primarily in maternity care. She has also gained experience in private practice, working as a locum doctor at Queenstown Life Hospital and various general practitioner practices.
She chose medicine out of a deep passion for healthcare and a desire to make a meaningful difference in her community, particularly in addressing the shortage of black medical professionals in South Africa.
Dr Marasi believes that practising medicine is a privilege. She takes a patient-centred approach, treating all patients with respect and dignity, and focuses on building strong doctor–patient relationships while ensuring proper follow-up and continuity of care.
